Overview

Tateru has one of the most diverse movepools in the game, allowing it to be run in a variety of roles or as a combination of many roles in one Tem. Tateru can deal good damage with a range of hard-hitting moves whilst also having an incredible amount of support moves in its arsenal to make use of. There’s a different Tateru set for every team and its specific movepool in any given match can be hard for the opponent to predict. It also sports impressive bulk, which helps offset its low speed and allows it to get more moves off.

Tateru has, slowly, over many patches, gained more and more damaging Neutral techniques that it uses better than others. Extra Energy Slam, Held Anger, and Major Slash give Tateru a regular rotation of extremely powerful techniques one after another, and Tateru itself has a bulky base stat total with great Stamina, and decent attack. If Skunch, Mouflank, Venx, Rhoulder, Venmet, and Yowlar didn't all exist, Tateru would likely see more usage - in the "Underused" tournament hosted right before 0.9.3 with a format that banned those tems, Tateru won first place.

As it stands, after the 0.9.4 nerf to Humiliating Slap, tems that can cause -2 defense debuffs have gotten rarer, and Tateru learns Perfect Jab. Again, in this role it can be outclassed by Mushook, Skunch, and Raignet, but it has a good defensive typing and a lot of STAB damage, especially when equipped with Resistance Badge.

Tateru makes a good partner for Electrics with Sparkling Bullet, as it can help soften other targets with Pjab, or lay waste to them as the electric protects them from mentals.
